Billy and the Devil's 'Canyon Fever' EP is a haunting, wonderful listen

After spending much of the past year teeing up what would become his Canyon Fever EP, Billy and the Devil's full project is here.

The haunting, six-song release arrived Friday, and it's a wonderful, gripping listen, anchored by the lead single "Even If It Kills Me," which first caught our attention last year. Billy co-wrote each of songs with Wes Marskell of longtime Variance favorite duo The Darcys, while Marskell and his Darcys bandmate Jason Couse produced the newly released EP.

"I’m very proud of this album," says Billy and the Devil. "It’s been a long journey to get here but this is just the beginning. Thanks to everyone who has listened, sent kind messages, and generally supported me throughout the process. It all means so much to me. Happy listening."

As we've previously mentioned, Billy and the Devil's music could easily share a lane with the likes of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, and that's evident on the song "Seeing Ghosts." But there's also a crisp, unique energy throughout the project, such as on "Line in the Dirt," which is one of the standouts on the EP.
